Milestones & important events
July 2 - Marcus is born!
July 8 - Marcus's first time at church. After church: Marcus's first interstate drive! We traveled as a family down to Oregon later that day (with a stop in Longview for a while) to be with my family for a couple of weeks so my mom could take care of us.
July 11 - Marcus gets circumcised. Ouuuuchy!
July 16 - We had a small get-together with my family to welcome Marcus. There were 21 of us. A few people were missing.
July 26 - We celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary.
July 28 - We attempted to take Marcus to Gordito's to get a newborn + giant burrito picture. Alas, they changed their policy this year - whereas they used to accept newborns under the age of one month, now the kid needs to be under one week old! Total bummer!

Favorite part...
Being together as a family of four. Those are my favorite moments.
Least favorite...
Camille's tantrums, being attached to my right boob (see below), and coping with the marital strains that result from having two kids.
Shout outs
...to Tara, our friend & doula, who has supported us through yet another wonderful birthing experience!
...to Microsoft for giving Chin a full month of paid paternity leave.
...to both grandmas for their love of holding sleeping baby Marcus. Although this will undoubtedly come back to bite us when he demands to be held all the time!
...to the multitude of friends and family who have come over to visit and bring us gifts, food, and just plain caring for us in this time of transition.
...to Comcast cable for providing the entertainment I need while nursing (we just got cable for the first time...the week Marcus was born).
...to this incredibly cool condo unit for saving us from the heat!

Discoveries & reflections

...Let me just say for the record that I am not a fan of my right boob. It is a sprinkler system when it comes to milk ejection...and it leaks! Marcus hates it, too. It makes me want to just pump & bottle feed; even though I know that's not a smart idea.
...Sadly, the idea of "Sleep when baby is sleeping" only really works for families with one kid. So, if you are reading this and you only have one baby, please sleep when your baby is sleeping!!
...Many people told us before Marcus was born that Camille will look giant next to the new baby. This was true for about 2 days. After that, Marcus looks to be about the same size as his little big sister.
...It seems that with the birth of every child, we revisit the topic of moving to live closer to family.
...There are a number of things that we forgot about having a newborn:
- how sweet it is to hold a freshly born baby
- how floppy they are
- how much sleep deprivation sucks!
...I didn't think I could love another child as much as I love Camille (or Penelope before her). But here I am - I love my kids so very much! I think my heart has grown in size. Cardiomegaly, they call it.
